As a Manc and a United season ticket holder I can't see the reason why we should pay £10m or £12m for an average Premiership player. Desperation because Chelsea aren't after him!

hi also a man utd fan i agree we may be buying because chelsea aren't interested but what would you do? we haven't got an owner who's robbed is fellow countrymen to feed his hobby we need to be cautious the last young player we bought he sent his mafia over to threaten his family in nigeria next minute he says i want to play for chelsea. fergies job isn't easy at all i just hope he pulls it off Roll Eyes

Carrick is average as a defensive midfielder, but he could be just what Man Utd are looking for in a more advanced role, making the link between midfield and Rooney/Saha. He'd need a bruiser supporting him though, a Cambiasso/Macherano/Gattuso figure. The key is, he's also young, so £13.5m - 14m (which will likely be the final price if it happens) isn't *that* bad. An untried player from South America would be a third of the price, but a bigger risk. In terms of his standing with the Glazers, Fergie can't really afford another stinker - although, when you think that kind of money would probably be enough to turn Villarreal's heads for Riquelme instead, maybe you have a point...  Undecided
