Here is the latest news on transfers..

TOTTENHAM: Spurs have won the race to sign Steed Malbranque (1306) from Fulham. With £18m burning a hole in his pocket, Martin Jol could be one of the big movers and shakers of the day. Real Madrid's Brazilian Julio Baptista has apparently been targeted while Spurs have been pursuing Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing, and Pascal Chimbonda. Plus, could Jermain Defoe be leaving?

FULHAM: Going the other way in the Steed Malbranque Spurs deal is Wayne Routledge (1306) who has moved to Craven Cottage in a one-year loan deal. Massimo Maccarone has also ben reported to be heading to the Cottage.

PORTSMOUTH: Former England international striker Andrew Cole (1053) has finalised details of his expected move from Manchester City. Hajduk Split star Niko Kranjcar is having a medical ahead of a £3.5m move, Auxerre defender Younes Kaboul is a rumoured target and Stephen Appiah of Fenerbahce is another possibility. Defender Andy O'Brien has been linked with a move from Fratton Park.

ARSENAL: Let's hope the phone lines are good at the spanking new Emirates Stadium - they should be busy. Having seemingly missed out on Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, the focus could now be on Real Madrid's Julio Baptista and a proposed swap deal with Jose Antonio Reyes. And will Ashley Cole be an Arsenal player at the end of the day?

ASTON VILLA: Villa, the quietest Premiership team in terms of summer signings, are in talks with Newcastle's James Milner. Martin O'Neill could also be ringing up former club Celtic with a view to signing Didier Agathe having landed Stilian Petrov from the Bhoys. Javier Saviola has turned his nose up at a move to Villa Park.

BLACKBURN: Jonathon Douglas is set to move to Leeds, defender Andy Todd is being tipped for a move from Ewood Park and Lucas Neill has been linked with Liverpool. But it is not all about selling at Rovers who have been tracking midfielder Kristoffer Haestad.

BOLTON: Sam Allardyce may feel pressured into action with the news that striker Kevin Davies is out injured for six weeks, even though Nicolas Anelka has already signed. Zenit St Petersburg's Pavel Mares could join.

CHARLTON: New Addicks boss Iain Dowie has not wasted any time in dipping his toes into the transfer market, and even on Wednesday he spent £3.7m on Souleymane Diawara. Uruguayan midfielder Omar Pouso has been linked with a loan move, but Jason Euell is on his way out to Middlesbrough.

CHELSEA: Will the summer's longest-running transfer saga finally come to an end on Thursday? Ashley Cole either signs for Chelsea today - or he will be preparing for his first competitive outing at the Emirates Stadium. And, if he does go, will William Gallas be moving the other way across London?

EVERTON: Following the captures of £8.6m Andy Johnson and £5m Joleon Lescott, David Moyes is not expected to splash his cash too liberally before the deadline. Going the other way, Kevin Kilbane is expected to sign for Wigan.

LIVERPOOL: After splashing out nearly £25m in total for Craig Bellamy, Gabriel Paletta, Jermaine Pennant and Dirk Kuyt, boss Rafa Benitez is unlikely to be too desperate for another big name. But Lucas Neill is set to join from Blackburn and £10m-rated Cadiz striker Lucas Lobos has been linked with a move.

MANCHESTER CITY: Boss Stuart Pearce may spend more time ensuring unsettled skipper Sylvain Distin does not make an 11th-hour exit from the club. Danny Mills, however, seems set to follow Andrew Cole out of the Eastlands exit door.

MANCHESTER UNITED: Will Sir Alex Ferguson add another big-money signing to his squad after the £18.6m capture of Michael Carrick? Not unless his luck turns. A move for Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves seems to be off and France international striker David Trezeguet has suggested he is happy with Juventus, despite the club's relegation.

MIDDLESBROUGH: Charlton's Jason Euell is close to finalising a deal and Robert Huth's move from Chelsea is "two or three hours" from being concluded according to Boro cheif executive Keith Lamb. Apparently his Chelsea counterpart Peter Kenyon has yet to sign the deal as he is dealing with "other business".

NEWCASTLE: Guiseppe Rossi has joined on loan from Manchester United as Glenn Roeder looks to bolster his attack further following the arrival of Obafemi Martins. James Milner is in talks over a move to Aston Villa, but will there be more arrivals on Tyneside?

READING: Steve Coppell has shown no great desire to break up last season's Championship-winning squad - and is not expected to make too many dramatic raids into the transfer market on Thursday.

SHEFFIELD UNITED: The Blades have been linked with a £4m move for Preston's highly-rated England Under-21 striker David Nugent. It has been a busy summer for transfers at Bramall Lane, so don't rule out further activity before the deadline. Colin Kazim-Richards should wrap up a move from Brighton.

WATFORD: The Hornets are unlikely to be making any significant deadline-day moves, having re-signed former player Tommy Smith from Derby on Wednesday.

WEST HAM: The Hammers look to have pulled off a sensational deal, landing Argentina internationals Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Corinthians. West Ham have not confirmed details on Tevez's personal website claiming he was moving to Upton Park.

WIGAN: Kevin Kilbane and Graham Kavanagh have left the Republic of Ireland squad's preparations for their weekend international against Germany for medicals. While Kilbane looks to be heading to Wigan from Everton, Kavanagh is heading for the Latics door and a move to Sunderland. And will Pascal Chimbonda get his much-wanted move to Spurs today?
